2015 - November

Two interesting days in the competent hands of Industrial New Media of Edinburgh, filming footage of Keith and the Mither Tongue shop for the landing page of this website.   Lots of areas then to improve / refine / update.   Should be looking SO much better by the end of the year!

2014 - June

Proud and happy, Keith becomes Scotland's very first Scots Toun, a prestigious government award presented to communities which have retained their linguistic culture.

2013 - November

Delighted to receive a Visit Scotland Four Star (Excellent) award.

2013 - September

Publication of 2011 Census Figures - Following decades of campaigning, and for the very first time, official figures exists for the number of Scots speakers in Scotland - 1,541,693 (40,839 in Moray).   Some of the many benefits will be (1) cultural organisations and councils will know how many people in their area can speak, read, write or understand Scots, (2) areas can be marketed as "cultural experiences", (3) schools will know how many children / families in their area speak Scots and can make provision since it is now part of the Curriculum for Excellence and teachers are required to respect the language children take to school, (4) publishers and writers will know where their target readership is - national or local - and it will benefit libraries and cultural bodies when making provision, (5) raising the confidence of Scots-speaking communities (necessary in an age when we're encouraged to respect ethnic backgrounds), (6) Scots language bodies will be able to make long-term plans, (7) government will be aware of the health of the language and where it may require provision, (8) partial fulfilment of the conditions of the European Charter to which the UK committed and (9) the broadcasting media will be aware of  potential audiences for programmes in Scots.

2013 June

Currently refining shop displays in preparation for grading by VisitScotland.   Also pressing on with new ranges of wedding horseshoes, cards and jewellery which will be added to the website following completion.

Busy year, developing ideas and creating new ranges.

2011 - January

Mither Tongue was a finalist in the Scottish Countryside Alliance Awards 2010 under the Best Village Shop category.   The Awards Ceremony at the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh a memorable experience!
